messianic, times two
Scott Jones linked this on his blog yesterday. I missed this episode of the Daily Show. For those of you not from Oklahoma, Inhofe is a regular embarrassment to moderates and liberals living here, and Gary England has made a career of histrionics. The old folks around here swear by him, but the other local stations long ago surpassed him in technology and reporting. He's a bit of a local celebrity still though, as weather in Oklahoma since the F5 tornados roared through a few years ago has become a selling point for local news, to the point that I almost fell down and worshipped God when the ABC affiliate did not interrupt the NBA finals for the first time I can remember. Anyway, enjoy...
Yeah, Gary is a little overblown. But, having lived here all my life, I have noticed that I get a little jaded about the tornado threat.
However, I knew it was going to be bad on May 3, 1999 when Gary saw video of the tornado for the first time and all he could say, live on the air, was "Oh my god."
But, you are right about the other channels and we have moved on to Rick Said It Would!
By the Way -- rumor around town is that Gary makes a half a million a year.

Ahh the spectator sport of spring weather in Oklahoma. You know the Hornets left because they couldn't compete with local weather didn't you??
My neighbor moved here from Houston and he gets a kick out of all the coverage and last night I was watching David Letterman well I was watching his body with the outline of Oklahoma where his head should have been...do we really need to tell people it is raining, and what is up with the power outage map on the news???

I used to feel the same way until I moved to NE Mississippi. Think about having the tornado weather with clueless weathermen.
Little story....back in April I am at work when the tornado sirens blow for about 5 seconds and shut off. It is raining hard so I call my wife and ask her to turn on the tv and tell me whats going on. She flips through all 3 local stations and all are on regular programming. I get on Weatherchannel.com and they are reporting Tornado on the ground for Lee County "around" Tupelo. 15 (!!) minutes after the warning had expired and the tornado passed through a mostly unpopulated area North of town, the news repored it.

Sorry, but what was John Stewart's original point again?

Mike,
I know this is hard for conservatives, but here you go. Inhofe accused the Weather Channel of using fear as a tactic. Stewart was just having fun with the idea of someone using fear of weather as a tactic. Kind of irony and sarcasm...things I know conservatives struggle with, being the literalists they are. Unless it comes to Jesus saying not to kill and to love enemies. Then, suddenly, they find nuances no one else seems to see.
