A Moment of Self-Indulgence

Tomorrow I turn 43. I'm celebrating this year by having a "favorite things" day. Starbucks in the early a.m. with friends. Ingrid's, a wonderful German restaurant, for a Bavarian breakfast. An hour browsing at the bookstore. Belgian beer at Tapwerks in the afternoon. Light dinner and fantastic wine at Bin 73. All in the company of the hot, hairdresser wife. She bought me a bottle of Clos du Val ('02) Cabernet and a bottle of Stag's Leap Artemis ('04) for my birthday wines. I'll probably have the Silver Oak Napa tomorrow night at Bin 73, but who knows...I may find something wondefully different. The only favorite things missing from my day will be friends and family, but I can't see them all in one day. I have a grace-filled life, and I'm grateful for it.

Happy Birthday, old man.

Happy B-day,greg. Indulge away!

you still look mid-30's to me.

Happy Birthday, sounds like you have a great day planned, I love Ingrid's and Tapwerks!

Congrats my friend may you have a blessed birthday

Happy birthday, and hope you can get to Starbucks before they raise their freakin' prices again.

Happy birthday, a bit late... You're probably good and toasted by now... :) Cheers!

Happy Birthday. I find it amusing that the only event with a time constraint is the bookstore.

43 is a good solid prime number; you won't hit another until 47. Happy birthday!

Happy Birthday. Thanks for sharing.

Happy late birthday. German food. Yum.

Thanks, all. It was a great day.

i hope you had a fantastic bday! so wasn't harry potter the greatest?

greg, I'm not into wine. But I'm curious which Belgian you enjoyed at Tapwerks.

Z,

They were out of St. Bernardus ABT 12, so I ended up with a Dutch beer, Konigshoven Quad. It's pretty damn tasty. I'm drinking it 'til they get the St. Bernardus back in.

The Bernardus 12 is one of the finer beers in the world imo. I have a couple in the basement for special occasions.

I'm getting into cellaring beers. I have a couple of Belgians and some British strong ales chilling for Christmas time. The cellared ales I've bought at a local store and at a couple of restaurants have been amazing.

Konigshoven is actually starting to, rightfully so, be acknowldged as one of the Trappists.

St. Bernadus 12 is definitely one of the best in the world. The only quad I've had better is Westvleteren Abt 12, although it is ridiculously hard to acquire.

Do yourselves a favor:

Monte,

Why are you teasing us? You know we can't have alcohol shipped direct to Oklahoma. Damn you!

It never stopped me. Belgian Shop, Liquid Solutions.biz and Sam's Liquor Chicago all shipped to me in OKC.

Okay,

Now you're jazzbassman the superhero!

jzz, you're my beero! That's been on my beer list for years. I've even searched online and hadn't found that site!

You can't (normally) have alcohol shipped to OK?

...I think I need another drink.

greg and jzz, ust got Westvleteren off ebay for a much better price. Had to buy 6, though. But I'm celebrating 40 in September, so I'm treating myself.

Did you get the 12? The Westy 6 is the one I usually see on Ebay. Nice, but not in the same class as the 12.

Yes, got the 12. I haven't had the 6 or the 8 either, but the 12 is the one that gets the raves.
