Haha, well said! I'm going to buy both the Fitch and the Noll, Marsden, Hatch book.

You may have already read this. Albion's Seed by David Fischer. He describes four distinct migrations from England to America; Puritans, Quakers, Anglican gentry and the displaced borderers from England/Scotland. Parts of the history get tedious; I learned far more than I wanted to know about architecture and farming techniques. But, each section ends with a discussion of that group's definition of "liberty." They aren't necessarily mutually exclusive but each one is different; very different.

Even if I wanted to describe this country as a "Christian" nation,and I don't; just what kind of Christian are we talking about here? With luck you can find a copy in the library.
