Wherein Tripp Fuller and I spend an hour talking about numbers 10-7, and where I only use profanity about five times. I may be overly optimistic on that number, but it feels like I really controlled myself for a bit. This is part one of two, and I'll post the second part here as soon as it's available. I believe Bo Sanders did the editing, which is a form of magic, as usual, so thanks, sir. The gist here is that Tripp and I combined lists of things that religious students don't know when they take an intro religion course, and then chose the ten we wanted to do. Many of those things are common knowledge for people who study religion, but somehow, communities of faith fail to let their young people know these things ahead of time, which can lead to a bit of a crisis, or at least consternation and denial, in a Humanities class.
Great stuff. I always thought the identification of Satan as the serpent in Genesis 3 was because of the description of the Great Dragon in Rev 12.9 as "the serpent of old," rather than because of Milton, but there's no doubt that protestants' visions of heaven and hell are more influenced by Milton than the bible.
